WPP Scangroup, the listed marketing services firm, has confirmed the end of the partnership between its subsidiary Ogilvy Africa and Airtel Africa, after nearly 15 years of working together and building the brand across Africa.
Qgilvy Africa first disclosed the news on LinkedIn on Tuesday, stating the two companies had decided to part ways. WPP Scangroup later confirmed the disengagement, acknowledging the long-standing partnership.
“The Board of Directors of WPP Scangroup plc wishes to inform its shareholders and the public that after nearly 15 years of working together and building this brand across the continent, Ogilvy Africa – its subsidiary – and Airtel Africa have decided to part ways,” wrote WPP Scangroup in a statement.
While the specific details for the termination of this partnership remain undisclosed, the companies expressed profound appreciation for their shared journey.
“Like any large and long-standing relationship, our two companies have learnt together, succeeded together, grown together and with time; grown apart,” noted Ogilvy Africa in a statement bidding farewell to Airtel.
This development comes at a challenging time for WPP Scangroup, which recently reported a Ksh 507.6 million net loss for the year ending December 2024, citing foreign exchange losses as the primary contributing factor.
Ogilvy Africa expressed pride in its partnership with Airtel Africa, highlighting its contribution to the growth of both companies while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, governance, and transparency in diverse markets in the region.
The partnership between Ogilvy Africa and Airtel Africa began in 2010. Ogilvy Africa was appointed as Airtel’s marketing services partner across the continent following Airtel’s acquisition of Zain Group’s mobile business in 15 African countries.
