Bolt has unveiled an in-app dash cam feature for its driver partners in Kenya in partnership with Driver Technologies, a dash cam and safety technology firm, in a bid to enhance safety on the e-hailing platform.

The program allows Bolt driver partners to use their mobile phones as a dual-camera dash cam, recording both the road ahead and the vehicle’s interior. The app operates in the background, so it doesn’t interfere with the functionality of the Bolt app.

“Driver partners frequently share that dash cams provide not only enhanced security and peace of mind, but also greater accountability in their trips. Unfortunately, the cost of acquiring a reliable device has often been a barrier. Through our collaboration with Driver Technologies, we are addressing this challenge by offering discounted access to premium dash cam features,” said Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager, Rides at Bolt.

“This empowers drivers with tools that improve safety, support accurate clarification of incidents, and foster greater trust between drivers and passengers, all at a reduced cost,” he said.

Driver partners will receive a one-month free trial of the premium app. After the trial, they can access the premium version at a 75% discount, which costs KSh 386 per month.

The premium version of the app comes with unlimited trip storage, access, and sharing capabilities for the dash cam footage through the Driver Cloud.

This initiative is part of Bolt’s broader efforts to improve safety on its Kenya platform, including features like Rider Verification, pick-up codes, and Trusted Contacts.
