The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on Monday announced that it has waived over Kshs. 140 billion in interest, fines, and penalties under its Tax Amnesty Program.
The initiative, which was launched on 27th December last year, aims to boost tax compliance by offering taxpayers the opportunity to ease their tax burden.
“This initiative is a part of KRA’s broader efforts to foster voluntary compliance and provide relief to taxpayers burdened by past debts. It offers a unique chance to settle tax matters on favorable terms and to move forward on a clean slate,” KRA noted in a statement.
According to KRA, over 1.9 million taxpayers have benefited from the program after clearing their principal tax payments.
Since the re-introduction of the program, KRA has collected Kshs. 4 billion from payments of principal taxes.
The Authority noted that the performance demonstrates its commitment to supporting taxpayers in improving tax compliance.
The program ends on 30th June 2025. Taxpayers who settle principal taxes due before 31st December 2023 automatically qualify for the waiver of accumulated interest and penalties.
However, taxpayers with outstanding principal taxes up to 31st December 2023 must submit an application via the iTax system.
The taxman urged to take full advantage of the amnesty before its deadline on 30th June 2025.
