Kenya faced a widespread power outage in the early hours of Wednesday, December 18, 2024, leaving most of the country without electricity.
In a statement issued at 1:28 a.m., Kenya Power and Lighting Company Plc (KPLC), the nation’s leading electricity utility, reported the power outage affected most of the country, except parts of Western and North Rift regions.
“The cause of the outage is yet to be determined,” the utility added in their statement.
Wednesday’s nationwide outage is the latest in a series of recurring outages the country has suffered over the past year. In August this year, Nairobi and other parts of the country were without electricity after a widespread outage.
However, power supply has since been restored to all the affected areas, according to a report by Kenya Power at 7.00 a.m.
“We are pleased to report that power supply has been restored to all the affected areas following a widespread,” the company posted on its X account.
Kenya Power is the country’s largest electricity provider, committed to delivering reliable and quality electricity services to Kenyans. Currently, the company serves 9.5 million customers across the country.
